Solving Polyurethane Screen Edge Leakage: Causes and Fixes
Edge leakage from polyurethane screen panels is a serious quality problem that is often not detected until significant off-spec material has been produced.

Why edge leakage happens
A polyurethane panel only performs as designed when the screen edge is correctly supported and sealed. Small gaps allow undersize material to bypass the intended aperture, reducing product quality and making later diagnosis difficult.
Three causes to inspect
Start with the fixing rail and support surface. Worn rails, uneven clamping or a panel that was not manufactured to the actual deck dimensions can all create a bypass path. Then check that the panel is seated without contamination beneath the edge. Finally, review feed direction and impact: repeated impact at one edge can distort the panel over time.
A practical prevention routine
Measure the clear opening before ordering replacement media, clean support rails at every changeover and re-tension panels after initial operation. If the problem repeats, share deck dimensions and photos with PBMEC so the edge profile and fixing method can be adjusted.
