How to Prevent Screen Hole Clogging: Practical Measures for Mining Operations

Screen hole clogging costs mining operations in downtime, lost throughput and premature screen wear. Targeted prevention starts with the actual cause.

Identify the source of blinding Moisture, flat particles, clay, static and incorrect aperture geometry can all cause material to lodge in a screen opening. The first step is to inspect what is retained and where it occurs on the deck.

Match media to material behaviour Self-cleaning wire, a different crimp profile or a change in aperture shape can keep difficult material moving. For wet feed, adequate slope and drainage are equally important; screen media alone cannot compensate for poor feed distribution.

Maintain the whole screen system Keep tension consistent, remove buildup from the support deck and avoid concentrated impact. A short inspection during planned maintenance helps prevent a small efficiency loss from becoming unplanned downtime.
